Find Funding Sources

The UMKC campus’ primary resource for information on research funding is the Pre-Award Office.

Our staff helps UMKC faculty and staff find state, federal, international, and UMKC funding, in addition to helping you prepare research proposals and negotiate contracts.

External Funding Opportunities

The following local, state, and federal databases often include different opportunities that can help fund university research. We recommend using all that seem relevant to your research project. If you need help sorting through your options, feel free to contact us.

 Funding Databases

  • Pivot (formerly Community of Science) maintains a comprehensive database of more than 400,000 funding opportunities worth over $33 billion—and not just for science. Pivot also offers grant, fellowship, and other funding information for social sciences, humanities, and community outreach funding. Creating a Pivot funding alert is an invaluable tool for investigating funding options. Register or claim your Pivot profile to receive funding alerts in your discipline.

  • Grants.gov allows organizations to find and apply for more than $400 billion in federal grants. Grants.gov is the single access point for more than 1,000 grant programs offered by all federal grant-making agencies. All Grants.gov proposals must submitted by UMKC’s Office of Research Services.

  • Foundation Finder provides a search tool that helps you locate funding interests of foundations on local, regional, national, and international levels, as well as past foundation grants and grantees.
