Social Sciences IRB

The Social Sciences IRB aims to ensure the ethical treatment of human participants in university research through the review of studies considered medically noninvasive.

IRB Application

  1. Review the training requirements
  2. Review the application guidelines
  3. Complete the SSIRB Application
  4. Submit a signed copy and appropriate attachments to the IRB office. In order to process the application, the IRB must receive signatures from all Investigators listed on the study.

If you believe your activity is not research involving human subjects complete the Human Subjects Research Determination Form.

If you believe your activity is Human Subjects Research but is likely to be classified as "exempt", complete the Application for Exemption

Fees for IRB Proposal Review

There are no fees for the review of the following research conducted by UMKC, Truman Medical Center (TMC), and Children’s Mercy Hospital (CMH) staff:

  • Unfunded research
  • Federally funded research
  • Foundation funded research

Fees for Industry-Sponsored Research

Fees do apply for industry-sponsored research conducted by UMKC, TMC, and CMH staff.

For Industry-Sponsored studies, the following fees are required:

Initial Submissions - $2500

Continuing Reviews - $1000

Fees for Research Conducted by Others

UMKC occasionally agrees to review research for investigators affiliated with organizations other than UMKC, TMC, or CMH. Those fees are:
