If your research involves radioactive materials or radioactive-producing devices, you must submit an application to the Radiation Safety Committee for review and approval.
RSC Application for Possession and Use of Radiation Sources
To apply for approval of possession and use:
- Contact the Radiation Safety Officer .
- Complete the appropriate forms:
- Complete the Application (RadSafe 1a or RadSafe 1b).
- Complete one appropriate AU Statement of Training and Experience (RadSafe 2a or RadSafe 2b) for the Authorized User, the person requesting the permit.
- Complete one appropriate Radiation Worker Statement of Training and Experience (RadSafe 3a or RadSafe 3b) for each person working on the requested permit who will not be the permit holder.
- Complete one Worker Exposure History form (RadSafe 4) for each person working on the requested permit.
- For RadioActive Materials, complete one Procurement Credit Card Information form (RadSafe 5).
- Submit the application request to the RSO for safety review.
To add new work under your existing permit,
Contact the RSO to determine whether an amendment (Form RadSafe 6a) to your permit is required.
Your permit is generally issued for three years.
The RSC administrator will contact you before your permit expires with instructions for renewing, amending or terminating a permit.
Research using radioactive materials in animals
Your research must be approved by IACUC and RSC before animal use can begin.
