Professional and Scientific Organizations

Organizations
Health Physics Society (HPS) With links to other organizations with interests in radiation safety
The health physicist's job is to manage the beneficial use of ionizing radiation while protecting workers and the public from potential hazards.

The Health Physics Society is dedicated to making sure that health physicists have the information and capabilities to do this.
Radiation Answers
This is an HPS-sponsored website dedicated to public education.
It contains objective, scientific information, peer reviewed by an advisory group of seven other professional organizations, and written in an easy to read format.
Conference of Radiation Control Program Directors, Inc (CRCPD)
CRCPD is a 501(c)(3) nonprofit non-governmental professional organization dedicated to radiation protection. CRCPD's mission is "to promote consistency in addressing and resolving radiation protection issues, to encourage high standards of quality in radiation protection programs, and to provide leadership in radiation safety and education."
CRCPD's primary goal is to assure that radiation exposure to individuals is kept to the lowest practical level, while not restricting its beneficial uses.
CRCPD's primary membership is made up of radiation professionals in State and local government that regulate the use of radiation sources, but anyone with an interest in radiation protection is eligible to join.
American Association of Physicists in Medicine (AAPM) The AAPM is a scientific, educational, and professional organization of more than 6,500+ medical physicists.
The purposes of the AAPM are to promote the application of physics to medicine and biology, encourage interest and training in medical physics and related fields.
Radiation Research Society The Radiation Research Society's objectives:
  • to encourage in the broadest manner the advancement of radiation research in all areas of the natural sciences
  • to facilitate cooperative research between the disciplines of physics, chemistry, biology and medicine in the study of the properties and effects of radiation
  • to promote dissemination of knowledge in these and related fields through publications, meetings and educational symposia
